Caring for your henna.
A little care turns a pretty design into a deep, lasting stain. Here is exactly how to look after your henna — from what to wear to the studio to the days that follow.
A little prep goes a long way.
Two small things make your session smoother and your stain richer. Read these before you head to the studio.
Wear dark clothing
Skip white and bright colours. Fresh henna can transfer before it fully sets, so wear black or dark clothing to your appointment.
Tell us about sensitive skin
If it is your first time, or you have sensitive skin or any allergies, let us know when you book. We will guide you and arrange a patch test if you need one.
Plan to keep it dry after
For a darker, longer-lasting stain, avoid washing the area straight after application. Give the paste time to do its work.
Make the colour go the distance.
Follow these in order once your design is on. They are the difference between a stain that lasts a few days and one that lasts a couple of weeks.
Let it dry, then peel — never wash off
Let the paste dry completely. Once it begins to flake, gently peel it from the skin, then rinse with water only — no soap at this stage.
Soften it only if it is too dark
If the stain comes up very dark, especially where black henna is used, a little soap and water will gently lighten it to the depth you want.
Dry hands with a dark towel
After washing, pat your hands dry with a dark-coloured towel or paper towel so the stain does not mark bright fabrics.
Seal with a mild oil
Massage in baby oil or any gentle body oil once dry. It keeps the skin moisturised and protects the stain as it deepens.
Pause harsh skincare
Hold off on exfoliation, scrubs, and strong treatments for a few days. Less friction means a brighter stain for longer.
Remember every skin is different
Henna reacts differently with each skin type — it may last longer on one person than another. That is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
Heading to bed soon after?
- Skip the oil before sleep
- If you are going to sleep right after washing off your henna, do not apply any oil to your hands that night.
- Be sure you are fully dry
- Make sure your hands are completely dry before lying on light-coloured bedsheets or sitting on bright furniture — fresh henna can still leave a mark.
